Script

A script is a written direction of the play it is a guide to how the play/film is meant to be set out and acted out, it helps actors/directors/producers to know exactly what is going on in every scene in detail. Before I set out to film the script was a vital part of how the film will be acted out and the different shot and camera angles that would be used in the short film clip we then needed to make a story board based on the script and this took time to do as we needed to think of the specific shots we would use and how to execute them properly we also thought about and took into account how we would be able to film these shots in real life so had to make the shots realistic and achievable.

Below I have annotated an example of how a script should look and whats meant to be included in a script. 

Below is my script

INT. CHLOE'S ROOM. NIGHT. 

ASHLEY looks in the mirror at herself whilst thinking of all the horrible things people said about her. 

 

EXT. OUTSIDE CHLOE’S HOUSE. AFTERNOON.

 

CHLOE’S walking home crying as Ashley follows behind her shouting things at her.

ASHLEY

Oi you.

 

EXT. OUTSIDE CHLOE’S HOUSE. AFTERNOON.

CHLOE turns around quickly to see who is shouting. 

ASHLEY

Ye you.
 

 

EXT. OUTSIDE CHLOE’S HOUSE. AFTERNOON.

 

CHLOE turns around again she is now scared and worried.

 

Where you going bitch.

 

 

 

EXT. OUTSIDE CHLOE’S HOUSE. AFTERNOON.

 

ASHLEY goes to grab CHLOE’S hair, she pulls her hair forward over railing as she stands over her.

 ASHLEY

Your such an ugly tramp.

What is a Recce?

A recce is pictures that is taken before the actual movie 
 It is a pre-filming visit to a location to work out its suitability for shooting, including access to necessary facilities and assessment of any potential lighting or sound issues.
The term 'recce' is also used in radio and television production. A recce is used to confirm whether the location the film is set in is good enough to use and has good qualities to make the movie good.

Equipment

For filming I used both the Nikon Digital SLR D5100 and Nikon Digital SLR D3100 this made the quality of my filming easier and of high quality, I also used a tripod to hold the camera in a still sturdy position and to achieve different height when filming.

For editing I used Final cut Pro, Final cut pro was used to edit my sequence by adding effects, transitions and edits, which contributed to making my sequence run smoothly.

Similar Text

A similar movie to mine is a movie called 'Teenage dirt bag' the movie is about a popular young girl who gets harassed by a delinquent boy and they connect through written words.

The movie is similar to mine because it deals with teenage problems and issues teenagers face at this stage of their life. There are similar shots in this movie to the ones in mine below are the pictures.

This picture shows the main character writing in a book. there is a long shot of her writing and she looks to be thinking carefully about what she is writing.

The character from also looks down/upset as this is portrayed in her facial expression. This is similar to a shot in my film opening,

the main character in my film ipening is upset and down in the shot of her coming out of the lift.

I love the the movie teenage dirt bag because it is where I got some of my inspiration for my storyline, shots and overall filming. I began researching  teen films and I came across teenage dirt bag I looked at the cast, the wardrobe, the shots they use, where its set and took all thes things into consideration when creating my film opening, One of the main things I liked about the movie was the storyline which I took alot of inspiration from, their storyline was based on a young girl and I i took this into account when writing mine as my main character is a young girl. I also liked the fact that it was about teenage problems and deals with teenage pregnancy, but I wasn't going to take the idea of teenage pregnacy but I used this to come up with a different teenage problem which was teenage bullying .

Audience

• The audience for my film is 12 - 25 year olds mainly girls but including boys this is mainly because the film deals with teenage issues.
• The audience also would be of any race because my film opening doesn't just talk about issues from a certain culture and race.
• The audience would be of mainly working class or school/college/university age.

180 degree rule

The 180 degree rule is a basic guideline in film making that deals with the on screen positioning of the characters and on-screen spatial relationship between a character and another character or object within a scene. An imaginary line called the axis connects the characters and by keeping the camera on one side of this axis for every shot in the scene, the first character will always be frame right of the second character, who is then always frame left of the first. If the camera passes over the axis, it is called jumping the line or crossing the line.

This pictures explains the 180 degree rule in a visual form the camera has to remain on the one side in order for it not to break the 180 degree rule. If the rule is broken this could confuse the audience as the characters may look as if they have switched sides when they have not.

Although the 180 degree rule often seems not to be broken because it may not be executed well a film that uses the 180 rule well is Batman the dark night. The interrogation scene between batman and the joker.

In the first picture the joker is talking so the camera is looking at him from the left side of batman's shoulder so the joker is clearly positioned on the right side of the screen and batman the left. In the beginning of  this scene batman is has the upper hand is seems to own most of the power.

 

In the next shot the camera looks at batman through the jokers left shoulder, when he is meant to be looked at from the jokers right shoulder, which would mean the camera is still on the right side of the 180 degree rule but instead because he is been looked at from the jokers left shoulder this indicates that the 180 degree rule has been broken and there has been a change in who has the most power, the 180 degree rule has been broken because the joker has given batman un expected news which has a hold over batman. Usually the 180 degree rule would be seen a wrong but because of the shocking power switch in this scene the audience now knows that it is the joker that now has the power.

A film that does not break the 180 degree rule would be Wedding Crashers

 

The first shot is of the man talking to his wife who he wants to divorce they are arguing about their relationship, He is on the left hand side of the camera whilst the converstionis going on.

 

The next shot is of the women replying, she is arguing with the same amount of force that he uses and they both hold the same amount of power, there is no power strugle althought they are both angry and forceful with their word. She remains on the right hand side of the camera and screen.

 

The next shot shows the mediators they are a part of the argument, they are there to adjudicate their relationship and try to solve their problems, this shot breaks up the conversation and although this happens the 18 degree rule is not broken because the cameras then flicks back the the man. 

 

This shot shows the man talking again, although the camera flicked away in between the conversation between him and hes wife the 180 degree rule is not broken because he still remains on the left side of the camera and screen.

Initial Ideas

My initial idea involved 3 main characters and was of the teen film and fantasy genre, It involved A women who was 33 years old and would some how turn in to a younger version of her self this took the same route as movies like, 17 again, 13 going on 30 and Freaky Friday. The only reason for me not being able to follow through this idea was that I would have not had enough time to edit the footage to a good enough standard I also did not want to over complicate what I needed to edit as it would be the result of a poor quality final product. I did in fact film footage for this idea but because of what I stated did not follow through with the idea like I said.
